Yard Waste Disposal

Mecklenburg County Solid Waste and Recycling offers yard waste disposal to County residents at its full service drop off recycling centers. 


Please note: If your yard debris is in plastic bags, we can accept the debris but not the plastic bags. Plastic bags DO NOT break down and are a contaminant in the finished composted product. You may bring yard waste in plastic bags, but you must take the bags away when you leave.

Yard Waste Fees

Vehicle TypeFee ($): Residents

Any Vehicle with less than 5-32 gallon trash bags of Yard Waste or 6 Kraft paper bags of yard waste

No Charge

Any vehicle with more than 5-32 gallon trash bags of grass, leaves or brush, but no loads piled higher than 2 feet

$8.00/unit

Any vehicle with built up sides; loads greater than 3 cubic yards, logs over 4 inch in diameter, or any trailer greater than 8' long

Vehicles Will be Weighed

All vehicle types weighed

$29.00/ton or $8.00 load minimum

All limbs & brush greater than 3 cubic yards

Acceptable Items

Leaves, brush and grass clippings 

Clean pallets less than 5' in length (not painted or treated are considered as yard waste)   

Limbs less than 5' in length 

Bamboo less than 5' in length

Small root-balls that are smaller than a basketball 

Trees with diameters up to 24 inches are accepted at Hickory Grove and North Mecklenburg recycling centers

Trees with diameters up to 48 inches are accepted at Compost Central and Foxhole Recycling Center
