Yard Waste Disposal

Mecklenburg County Solid Waste and Recycling offers yard waste disposal to County residents at its full service drop off recycling centers.

Please note: If your yard debris is in plastic bags, we can accept the debris but not the plastic bags. Plastic bags DO NOT break down and are a contaminant in the finished composted product. You may bring yard waste in plastic bags, but you must take the bags away when you leave.

Any vehicle with built up sides; loads greater than 3 cubic yards, logs over 4 inch in diameter, or any trailer greater than 8' long	Vehicles Will be Weighed

It is impossible to list all items that may not be accepted or able to be processed. The list below provides an overview of typical unacceptable items. It you have specific questions about the acceptability of an item, please email our team at [email protected] and include a photo of the item in question if possible. Responses will typically occur within 4 hours during weekdays.

Leaves, brush and grass clippings
Clean pallets less than 5' in length (not painted or treated are considered as yard waste)
Limbs less than 5' in length
Bamboo less than 5' in length
Small root-balls that are smaller than a basketball
Trees with diameters up to 24 inches are accepted at Hickory Grove and North Mecklenburg recycling centers
Trees with diameters up to 48 inches are accepted at Compost Central and Foxhole Recycling Center
