Recycle the Runway

Recycle the Runway offers high school students from public or private Mecklenburg County schools an opportunity to create avant-garde fashions out of recycled materials.

Recycle the Runway

Hosted by Mecklenburg County Solid Waste and Keep Mecklenburg Beautiful, Recycle the Runway offers high school students from public or private Mecklenburg County schools an opportunity to create avant-garde fashions out of recycled materials.

At least 85% of the outfit must be made of items that can be recycled by or within Mecklenburg County, such as cardboard, aluminum cans, newspaper, rigid foam, and books. Students create, design and model the fashions for the chance to win monetary prizes for their school.

Students should work in teams and will be eligible to win a cash prize for their school. Each school can submit up to three outfit designs. Initial sketches and a list of materials that will be used to construct an entry are due March 30, 2025.

Students will show off their creations during the Recycle the Runway show at Northlake Mall (lower-level Grand Court) on May 3 at 1 p.m.
